Pretty sure this is in response to an infographic I posted for the people who haven’t quite gotten why Day 1 DLC is not a big deal..

There is no love put into any of Bioware’s games. It’s all about making money, and only about making money. And it’s been that way for years. If you buy Bioware (or EA, Capcom or Activision) games, you’re fueling the destruction of gaming.

I borrowed one of your posts to show what an idiot you are. You haven’t even seen the main game so you have no concept of how much effort Bioware has put into it you twat. Considering Bioware’s track record with amazing DLC (Kasumi, Overlord, Lair of the Shadowbroker, Arrival, etc). If you even touched any of these ME2 DLCs you would see how much fucking love Bioware puts into their games. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt.

And you’re right, things are monetized. Because we’re capitalists, not socialists. Not everything can’t be free. And if it were free, what compensation do the people who create the content get? Slap on their back and a “gg, man, gg.” No. They get PAID. You’re 20 years old and have no idea how the real world works. Also there has been paid expansion packs since cartridge gaming days (not to mention paid expansions for PC games or tabletop games since forever).

As for the “tiny expansion pack,” let’s discuss what’s in the From Ashes DLC.

-“From Ashes” includes the Prothean squad mate, an adventure on Eden Prime, a new weapon, and an alternate
appearance for every squad mate. Note that these alternate appearances are in addition to the ones already advertised in the CE.

- The Collectors Edition has been advertised from the beginning as containing a bonus character/mission, but we were not at liberty to provide the details. The Prothean is optional content that is certainly designed to appeal to long-time fans, which is why he is part of the CE offering (the version many fans would be likely to purchase).  Mass Effect 3 is a complete – and a huge game - right out of the box.

Squadmate, Mission, Weapons, Alternative Appearances for ALL squadmates (in addition to the other appearances that people who bought the Collector’s Edition get). That’s a lot of shit. And knowing Bioware, that’s a lot of awesome shit. All for about $10. That’s a fair trade to me.

Here’s some more information from the Community Manager at Bioware about her take on the DLC situation. She’s played the game both without the DLC and with the DLC.

I think there’s a lot of misinformation out there and I wish the guy who made the initial video about it would have had an open mind before jumping to conclusions based on a leak we weren’t ready to address. Since I’m a BioWare employee, I know people won’t automatically trust me, but I hope people will consider that it wasn’t cut content from the larger game. I was in Edmonton when we were finishing the game in November/December and I was in Edmonton again last month when they were working on the Day 1 DLC. It definitely was only possible to do because the main game was in certification (which means we had to wait for people to test it and make sure everything was good etc before we could get the greenlight to sell it). I also played the game WITHOUT the DLC in my first playthrough and honestly, it’s an awesome addition but I was more than happy with what I was given in the game. It’s bigger and more expansive than ever. Of course, I understand the concern but I hope we can all have an intelligent conversation about it and cover what the facts are in this situation.
